Resurfacing the Grand Prix racetrack

Bitu-mill was proud to partner with our client to deliver the resurfacing of one of Australia’s most prestigious racetracks, the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.

This project involved the meticulous milling of the existing asphalt on the Albert Park Circuit to meet the stringent standards set by the FIA. Leveraging advanced 3D-level control technology, the team achieved millimeter-precision, ensuring that only the necessary amount of asphalt was removed and re-laid. This precision was crucial in maintaining the integrity and safety of the circuit.

Our in-house survey team’s role in providing detailed conformance reporting for all profiling works was vital in ensuring every aspect of the milling process adhered to the required specifications. A total of 68,000 square metres of asphalt was removed from the circuit, with three 3D fine mill profilers employed to achieve the milling depth accuracy.

A significant challenge of the project was handling the multiple super elevation grade changes. The team skillfully blended the existing circuit areas with the newly completed realigned sections, achieving a seamless transition. The result was a perfectly smooth surface with an average conformance of 0mm, ensuring precise asphalt quantities.

The project’s success was evident in the technical achievements and the client’s satisfaction. The exceptional smoothness of the surface and the meticulous attention to detail exceeded the client’s expectations, showcasing our commitment to excellence.
