Yarraman railway station improvement for the community

BildGroup helped deliver the AWP7 Train Station project at Yarraman, Upper Ferntree Gully, Nar Nar Goon, and Drouin Railway Stations, which we completed in December 2022 for the local communities. This $10.5 million package was part of the broader Level Crossing Removal Project and involved constructing four new train station car parks across Victoria.

The project included extensive site preparatory works, such as clearing and grubbing, and demolishing existing structures. We undertook bulk earthworks and prepared the subgrade, installed new drainage systems, and removed old ones. We also handled the installation of Operational Communications Systems (OCS), including CCTV, public address systems, and the necessary civil works for lighting pits and conduits, all while working in live rail environments.

Protecting and realigning utilities was a critical part of our job, ensuring everything was safely integrated into the new infrastructure. We placed pavement fill, installed OCS and lighting equipment, and managed all the cabling and terminations.

One of our favourite aspects of this project was incorporating Water-Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) treatments, which help manage stormwater sustainably. We also constructed new kerbs, asphalt pavements, and concrete footpaths, and created Shared User Paths (SUP) to enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.

The completion included hard and soft landscaping, such as the addition of bicycle facilities like Parkiteers and bike hoops, new perimeter fencing, signage, and bollards. We ensured the new car parks were fully DDA compliant, making them accessible for everyone.

Working in a live rail environment posed challenges, but our team was committed to maintaining safety and minimising disruption. The result is a beautifully constructed, fully functional facility ready for immediate use, built to VicRoads and other specifications.
