Runway and lighting systems upgrade

BildGroup was engaged by our client for a significant upgrade to Deniliquin Airport, specifically focusing on the runway and lighting systems. The project involved replacing the existing 1,219-metre sealed runway, Runway 06/24, and included comprehensive excavation work to remove the old runway and lighting infrastructure. To ensure a robust foundation for the new runway, our team worked meticulously to stabilize two layers of pavement. This was followed by importing 11,500 cubic metres of Class 2 FCR and conducting thorough soil testing to determine the best stabilising agent.

New edge lighting infrastructure was installed, including a backup generator to enhance safety and reliability. The runway was treated with a prime coat and a two-coat bituminous seal, followed by precise line marking. Various civil works complemented these efforts, all while carefully managing environmental impact.

The project was carefully staged to ensure the airport remained operational throughout construction, demonstrating the team’s commitment to minimizing disruptions. This included extensive bulk earthworks, trenching and shoring, spray sealing, and the installation of aeronautical ground lighting.

We delivered a high-quality runway upgrade that met all specifications and was completed on schedule in November 2023, at a total value of $5 million. The successful completion of this project enhanced the airport’s infrastructure and benefited the local community through improved airport facilities.
