A dual pitch transformation for Knox’s football community

BildGroup’s sports fields and surfaces team was proud to deliver a major upgrade to Egan Lee Reserve in Knox, creating a high-performance, dual-pitch football facility that supports both senior and junior football. The redevelopment focused on improving playability, drainage, lighting, and accessibility, transforming a previously underperforming site into a modern, sustainable sports precinct.

The project included the construction of a FIFA standard synthetic pitch and a premium natural turf field. Extensive earthworks were undertaken to strip the existing surfaces and stabilise the subgrade. Poor ground conditions were remediated using lime and cement stabilisation, to ensure long-term durability and performance.

Key features of the redevelopment include:

• Synthetic pitch: 7,296m² surfaced with FieldTurf RGF XM7 50-10.5 and cork infill over a ProPlay Sport 20 shockpad
• Natural turf pitch: 4,896m² with Santa Ana Couch and 430m² of hybrid turf in high-wear zones
• Lighting: 6 towers delivering 100 lux average horizontal illuminance, with a new control system and upgraded switchboard
• Fencing: 550 linear metres of chain mesh fencing and 6m high soft netting behind goals for cost-effective ball stop
• Amenities: FIFA-approved goals, player benches, shoe grates, concrete stairs, perimeter footpath, and disability access ramp
• Irrigation: Fully automated system including new water tank and pump shed
• Drainage: Including inground Spel Gross Pollutant Trap and Detention tank capable of holding 70m³ water prior to discharge into existing system
