Restoring critical road infrastructure after floods

BildGroup took on an essential project for our client, aimed at repairing and rehabilitating numerous roads across Western Victoria that were damaged by the 2022 floods. This effort focused on routes such as Cobden-Terang Road and Ballarat-Burrumbeet Road. The initial phase involved thorough investigations of the site conditions to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions. From there, we developed a reference design and refined it to produce a final design that met all required standards.

The collaborative project environment established by the MRPV model played a crucial role in the success of this venture. Our teams thrived in this setting, ensuring smooth cooperation with various stakeholders. Numerous workshops were conducted with Barwon Water to ensure comfort and agreement on procedures when working over their assets. We also coordinated closely with local councils and their contractors to synchronise work activities and effectively manage parallel programming.

One of the critical aspects of the project was the protection of vital transfer water mains servicing the Bellarine Region. This involved developing shallow pavement designs that met the necessary design life while creating detailed construction methodologies to facilitate work over these critical assets. Despite the extensive rehabilitation needed, we ensured that residents had continuous access to the roads through access ramps or alternative pathways.

Valued at $30 million, the project significantly improved community connectivity and reduced drive times. It restored critical infrastructure and demonstrated our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality solutions efficiently and effectively for the benefit of the community.
