Carpark reconstruction for new COVID-19 testing and vaccination hub

With less than 24 hours’ notice, Bitu-mill swiftly mobilised our profiling and asphalt paving divisions to tackle the reconstruction of the southern car park at the former Ford factory in Broadmeadows. This urgent project aimed to prepare the surface for a new COVID-19 testing and vaccination hub. We deployed two Wirtgen profilers, skid steer loaders, sweepers, and live bottom trailers to complete the task. Our profiling team efficiently completed 13,000 square metres of profiling in a single shift, ensuring the surface was ready for the asphalt paving team, who then re-sheeted the entire area over two days. The profiled pavement was recycled at Downer’s Somerton plant, highlighting our commitment to sustainability.

This project brought immediate and significant benefits to the community. The rapid transformation of the car park into a COVID-19 testing and vaccination hub provided a vital resource in the fight against the pandemic. The improved infrastructure facilitated better access for residents seeking testing and vaccinations, contributing to public health and safety. The project showcased our efficiency and capability and underscored our dedication to supporting the community during a critical time.
