Improving road infrastructure

BildGroup is proud to partner with our client to upgrade Grices Road, Clyde North. This $14.8 million project, completed in October 2022, was a key part of the City of Casey’s efforts to improve road infrastructure in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing areas.

Recognising the growing traffic in the City of Casey, this upgrade was much needed. The project involved duplicating about 1 kilometre of Grices Road, making it easier and safer for residents to commute. Part of undertaking these works was to also demolish an old bridge and construct two new single-span bridges, upgrade traffic signals at a major intersection, and relocate various essential services.

One of the more challenging aspects of the project was widening the Melbourne Water creek under the new bridge and building a retaining wall. Despite the complexity, our team at BildGroup worked closely with the City of Casey, using our expertise to manage these tasks efficiently.

Even though our contract was to “construct only,” we found that the design and documentation were incomplete. This meant we had to step up, offering our own design and constructability input to ensure everything ran smoothly. We successfully navigated around existing pipelines and relocated utility assets like fibre-optic cables and services from Telstra and Optus.

Environmental care was a big part of our approach. To minimise runoff into nearby waterways and safely work next to a live creek, we carefully planned and implemented silt barriers and detailed site drainage.

Managing traffic during construction was another critical aspect. We made sure the work zone was safe and practical, with well-marked entry and exit points, speed restrictions, work zone signs, barriers, and additional traffic controllers during peak times.
