Constructing new B-Double and staff carparks

BildGroup undertook a significant project for our client in Somerville, Victoria, which involved constructing new B-Double and staff carparks, as well as widening an internal access road. Our collaboration led to the redesign of the original rigid pavement into a heavy-duty flexible pavement. This redesign not only met the stringent truck loading requirements, including loads, scrubbing, and cycles, but also resulted in a substantial cost saving of $200,000 for Inghams.

Faced with the challenge of uncompacted fill, we used impact rolling and subgrade stabilization to create a solid foundation. They then laid a compacted crushed rock subbase, constructed kerbs, and installed drainage systems. Notably, the work was done with care to prevent runoff or silting into Watson’s Creek. The project also involved laying heavy-duty asphalt base and wearing courses, followed by precise line marking for truck, carpark, and roadway areas.

The carpark, valued at $1.4 million and completed in August 2020, was handed over on time and immediately put to use. This improvement significantly enhanced truck flow in and out of the facility, boosting the plant’s productivity. The project included extensive earthworks involving 10,000m³ of material, the installation of electrical, sewer, and private fibre optic assets, and the construction of 140 metres of 300mm diameter stormwater drainage.

This project not only improved the operational efficiency at Inghams but also demonstrated our expertise in delivering durable and cost-effective infrastructure solutions, while being mindful of environmental impacts.
