Sports facilities transformed with design and construct of new football fields

BildGroup’s sports fields and surfaces team were excited to partner with our client to transform their sports facilities with two state-of-the-art synthetic football fields. This was no ordinary project—these fields come with an AFL overlay, offering versatility for both soccer and Australian Rules Football.

Imagine stepping onto a field that meets FIFA Quality standards! The new surface, FieldTurf RGF XM7 60-10.5, was expertly laid over a Schmitz ProPlay Sport20 shock pad and a vertically draining gravel base. This means the fields are not just beautiful but also built to handle rain and other weather conditions with ease, ensuring all-weather usability.

The project included comprehensive drainage solutions, ensuring the fields remain playable even after heavy rains. We also installed sturdy fencing, backstop netting, and lighting to extend playtime into the evenings. To make the viewing experience just as enjoyable as the playing experience, we added sandstone bleachers, providing comfortable seating for spectators.

The entire project came in at a budget of $7.275 million. Here are some quick stats to give you a sense of the scale:

• Fencing: 588 linear metres
• Synthetic Turf Pavement: 17,450 square metres
• Concrete Pavement: 1,100 square metres
• Sandstone Bleachers: 288 linear metres

This project wasn’t just about creating new fields; it’s about providing a long-term, high-quality sports environment for Macquarie University’s students and community.
