Overtaking lanes improve road safety

The Midland Highway Overtaking Lane project, a significant venture by BildGroup’s regional infrastructure team in collaboration with our clients, has been a remarkable achievement in enhancing one of Victoria’s major road transport routes. This 452 km highway, stretching from Geelong to Mansfield and linking four of the state’s largest regional centres, has been progressively upgraded to improve traffic flow and safety.

Over the years, we have consistently delivered various improvements along the length of the Midland Highway, including new overtaking lanes, road duplications, shoulder reconstructions, and enhanced safety measures. Recently, our dedicated crews focused on constructing new overtaking lanes between Bannockburn and Meredith, completing the work over nine months. Remarkably, we finished ahead of schedule, meeting VicRoads’ stringent technical specifications and ensuring no environmental impact.

Our efforts included constructing overtaking lanes, precise line marking, and the installation of an extensive 11,000 metres of wire rope barriers. Additionally, we reshaped table drains, repaired, and upgraded culverts, utilising 110,000 tonnes of crushed rock and laying 94,000 square meters of bituminous surfacing. Throughout the project, we prioritised minimising disruption to the community, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

The outcome is a safer and more efficient Midland Highway, contributing significantly to improved traffic flow and community amenities. Our success in delivering this project ahead of schedule, with minimal disruption and no environmental impact, has resulted in a satisfied client and a positive enhancement for the region. This project underscores our commitment to excellence in infrastructure development and our dedication to the communities we serve.
