TurfOne, BildGroup’s sports field contracting team, had the privilege of building one of the largest polyurethane athletics tracks in Australia for the City of Dandenong. Located at Noble Park, the project consisted of a full reconstruction of the existing athletic track and natural turf infield. Completed in March 2024, the new track offers access to a high quality and innovative athletics facility.
Spanning 10,643m², the World Athletics Class II certified track offers a range of facilities including; eight Lane Synthetic Athletics Track, four Long and Triple Jump Pits, four Shot Put circles, two High Jump areas, two Javelin run-ups, Hammer Throw Cage, Discus Throw Cage, Steeplechase Water Pit and Pole Vault.
In collaboration with the client and design consultant team, TurfOne delivered a product that is easily accessible for people of all abilities including a key innovation that will set this community-based facility ahead of the rest. A progressive feature called MyLapse was installed allowing athletes to record their times at certain intervals around the track. The system includes placement of a sensor wire within the asphalt layer and points for connection into a decoder box. The athlete wears a transponder around their ankle and allows for a time to be recorded each pass over the sensor wire, helping them to fulfil their potential while training or competing.
We were extremely vigilant throughout the construction phase to ensure we maintained a high level of environmental awareness to noise and dust, as well as stormwater management.
Having a positive impact on the environment is also a huge consideration in any work that TurfOne does. Opportunities for utilising recyclable materials within a new construction is something that we are very conscious of. In this particular case, site won topsoil was reused within the new natural turf profile. This had a significant impact of reducing both truck movements on local roads, and materials heading to landfill. We were extremely vigilant throughout the construction phase to ensure we maintained a high level of environmental awareness to noise and dust, as well as stormwater management.
While we handed the Ross Reserve project over to the local council and community for use and enjoyment in March 2024, our work didn’t stop there. Currently, TurfOne (BildGroup) are attending the site on a weekly basis to maintain the track, ensuring the new facility remains in top shape for everyone.
